AthenianRazak Announce Culmination of the Construction Process of Lenfest Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music

AthenianRazak is proud to announce the culmination of the construction process of Lenfest Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, a LEED Gold-qualified facility.  Construction of this project began in February 2009, with AthenianRazak serving as the development manager.

Lenfest Hall is a major expansion to the Curtis Institute of Music, providing more than100,000 square feet of teaching and practice spaces, an orchestra rehearsal hall, dining and lounge spaces, and 88 student residences. Students moved into the new facility in August.

The new 10-story building occupies a challenging site in a sensitive historic neighborhood, where two earlier attempts to obtain approvals for similar projects had failed due to neighborhood opposition.  The design for Lenfest Hall preserves the facades of two flanking historic townhouses and incorporates them into the new building design. AthenianRazak was hired after project design was well underway, inheriting a project which was $7 million over its $65 million budget and facing severe constructability challenges. Through excellent market timing and concentrated value engineering, the project was delivered $5 million under budget.

As development manager, AthenianRazak guided the project through the entire development process, from zoning and approvals to assembling and managing the design and construction team, as well as supporting fundraising and financing efforts.
