Alan Razak, Principal of AthenianRazak, was in Washington DC on April 17 to participate in a panel for the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Managing the Successful Small-Scale Development Enterprise, a professional development program addressing issues that face professionals focused on smaller-scale/infill development projects. Alan’s panel focused on “Lessons Learned from the Trenches,” offering insights such as identifying and selecting collaborators, managing cash flow, organizing projects on limited budgets, and reflections on what the panel leaders would do differently with the benefit of hindsight. Lenfest Hall Awarded 2012 Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award

AthenianRazak is proud to announce that Lenfest Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music has been awarded the 2012 Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award by the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. AthenianRazak served as the Development Manager for this major expansion of the Curtis Institute to provide teaching and practice spaces, an orchestra rehearsal hall, dining and lounge spaces, and residences for 88 students.

Lenfest Hall opened—on schedule—in time for the Fall 2011 semester as a LEED Gold facility. The design preserved the historic facades of both townhouses and incorporated them into the new building design. The project was completed $4.5 million under budget.

AthenianRazak is committed to historic preservation and sustainable options for development whenever possible.

Jackie Buhn Joins Counselors of Real Estate External Affairs Initiative

Jackie Buhn has been named as the Sector Lead for Land Use, Energy, and the Environment for the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) new External Affairs initiative, which was launched at its 2012 Annual Meeting in Washington DC. As part of this initiative, Jackie and the AthenianRazak team will contribute to discourse on leading industry issues and will use its industry-leading knowledge and expertise related to sustainability to help shape the dialogue on this topic. As a sector leader, Jackie is responsible for identifying and reviewing issues and working with the rest of the committee to develop appropriate responses. Click here for more information.

Jackie Buhn to Speak at Yale Alumni Real Estate Association National Conference

Jackie Buhn, AthenianRazak’s Principal & CEO, a 1973 graduate of Yale, will speak at the Yale Alumni Real Estate Association’s 2012 National Conference on April 20^th. Jackie will join a panel of national real estate experts to share ideas and experiences related to development in secondary markets, and will discuss specific challenges these markets face based on case studies. The Yale Alumni Real Estate Association is a group of alumni from Yale College and various professional and graduate schools at Yale who share a personal or professional interest in real estate.

ULI Philadelphia continues its series of mini-workshops with this month’s workshop focusing on Commercial Leasing. Do you want to understand the dynamics of commercial leasing? Then this program is for you! No prior experience is necessary. Attendees will participate in a simulated lease process with the pros and learn how it’s done. Station Park, Hatboro, PA Management and Repositioning for 428,000 sf Office and Warehouse

AthenianRazak was recently appointed manager of Station Park, a commercial office and warehouse complex in Hatboro, PA. With 428,000 sf of office and warehouse space and occupancy at 62 percent, AthenianRazak’s goal is to increase occupancy and address any deferred maintenance issues. With these issues stabilized, the property will be marketed for sale.

Alan Razak Leads ULI Development Process Workshop for Minto Group in Toronto

Alan Razak, Principal of AthenianRazak, recently traveled to Toronto to conduct a two-day seminar on real estate development for the Canadian development company Minto Group. Participants included Minto employees from its Toronto and Ottawa offices. The seminar was an abbreviated version of the ULI Real Estate Development Process I workshop which Alan, along with other ULI members, is currently rewriting with ULI. The course offers an overview of the development process and insights into the role of a developer in large-scale projects. Senior leaders from AthenianRazak often share their expertise as part of similar seminars and through our consulting offerings.

ChesLen Preserve Management Center, Natural Lands Trust Development Advisor for 1,263 acre Preserve, Chester County, PA

AthenianRazak was recently appointed to serve as the development advisor for the ChesLen Preserve Management Center. Natural Lands Trust, a leader in the land conservation movement, acquired 1,263 acres in Newlin Township, Chester County, enabling them to integrate all aspects of their preservation, stewardship, recreational and educational programs at the ChesLen Preserve. This location is a result of the donation of land from Gerry Lenfest that was combined with land from ChesterCounty that was consolidated together by the Brandywine Conservancy. As part of the agreement for this project, Natural Lands Trust has agreed to build a management and preserve center.

AthenianRazak will oversee this development process, including the demolition of the existing preserve management building and pole barn to accommodate the new management center and requisite parking. The new facility will consist of a one story building, including 700 sf of office space, a 450 sf multi-purpose room, and approximately 1,850 sf of miscellaneous support spaces. Adjacent to the first floor level will be a 1,000 SF open air pavilion.
