The Curtis Institute of Music Campus Facilities Management Plan Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, among the world’s pre-eminent music conservatories, embarked on an expansion program to build its first residence hall and an expansion of its practice and classroom facilities. This expansion tripled the Institute’s size, making it the right time to adopt state-of-the-art facilities management practices. The Institute engaged AthenianRazak to determine the best facility management structure, and subsequently to initiate an effective campus facility management plan, streamlining and integrating maintenance for the campus. The engagement included completing a thorough conditions assessment of the existing campus facilities.

AthenianRazak drafted a zero-based multi-year operating budget for the Curtis campus facilities, and initiated a state-of-the art preventive maintenance and work order system. It assisted Curtis in determining (and in some cases hiring or training) appropriate staffing for residence life, property management, and maintenance needs, and created campus-wide security and emergency plans, while helping solve ongoing existing facility problems such as roof leaks and inadequate heat distribution along the way.
